ROOTS OF WONDER

REFLECTING ON MY RHYTHMS

About Me

Lyn Jekowsky

“Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.”           William Wordsworth

Mornings, you will find me at my computer, cup of coffee close at hand, and my beautiful lab, Willow, curled at my feet.  Here I create my rhythms, writing picture books and poems for children.  This is a new obsession.  I have always kept journals and have been an avid reader.  I completed my memoir just before the pandemic.  This launched me into a writing frenzy.  I adore writing picture books. Most of my ideas have roots in my childhood.

I became a pediatric nurse to care for and educate children about their health and wellness.  The last 18 years of my career I practiced as an elementary school nurse. My Master’s thesis is a 100-page annotated bibliography, Increasing the Wellness of Primary Grade Children Through Children’s Literature.  Relaxation and breathing techniques became important in my school nursing practice, which led me to yoga for children.  I became certified as a yoga teacher for infants to teens, and children with special needs.

I often use books in my yoga lessons.  My intent in sharing yoga and stories with children, is to support them as they become more mindful, resourceful and emotionally intelligent;  to help them discover tools that will guide them in coping with life’s difficult situations, and to build resilience.  Roots and Rhythm.
